DENTAL SCALING

Dental scaling

Scaling is when your dentist removes all the plaque and tartar (hardened plaque) above and below the gum line, making sure to clean all the way down to the bottom of the pocket.

● Scaling and deep cleaning of gums prevents bad breath and bleeding gums.

● Patients with gum disease or gingivitis may need to have a treatment called
deep cleaning, scaling, or root planning to remove plaque and bacteria that are
growing under the gum line and damaging their teeth.

● This is a relatively simple procedure that usually takes two visits otherwise one
visit.

● After scaling and root planing is completed, you may experience slight sensitivity to hot and cold (and sometimes sweets) for up to 1-2 weeks duration. This is a normal course of healing.

● You should be visiting your dentist every six months for a dental checkup and cleaning. The reason that it’s twice a year is because a professional deep dental clean is vital to preventing serious dental issues such as gum disease and tooth decay.
