Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment (RCT)

Root canal is a treatment to repair and save a badly damaged or infected tooth
instead of removing it. The term “root canal” comes from the cleaning of the canals
inside a tooth’s root.
A root canal procedure sounds scary, but with today’s technology, it’s typically
not a whole lot more different than having a deep filling. There’s little to no pain
because your dentist will use local anesthesia to numb your tooth and gums so
you’re comfortable during the procedure.

Steps of a root canal procedure

  1. Preparing the area. The dentist begins by numbing the area with local
    anesthesia
  2. Accessing and cleaning the roots. Next, the dentist drills through the tooth
to access the root canals and pulp chamber.
  3. Shaping the canals with endodontic files(rotary endodontics)
  4. Filling the canals with gutta percha
  5. Filling to the access hole with GIC/Composite
  6. Healing and antibiotics medication
  7. Adding the crown.

The patient will no longer feel any pain in that tooth because the nerve tissue
has been removed, and the infection has been eliminated.
A dental crown after a root canal provides reinforcement to your tooth and
restores its health and functionality.
